might as well be now and there is no better proof than bands like The Neo-American Pioneers who take inspiration from the classics and create music that is as familiar as it is fresh. The Pioneers sound like The Pioneers…but you’ll probably know where they’re coming from - a time when great rock and roll wasn’t mutually exclusive from top-of-the-charts pop music. You know…Creedence, Stones, Fleetwood…

Here, that classic brand of soulful rock is put through an indie rock lens, evoking the sounds these folks grew up with in the 90s and 2000s. Billy Swayne and Heather Redman create beautiful male-female vocal arrangements that would make Stevie and Lindsay swoon and this fits so well amidst a wall of guitars, organ and synth with a hard hitting rhythm section.

Into the Deep builds on the sound established by 2018’s Beginning to Unfold with more songwriting contribution by Redman and the melodic partnership of Dan Spaugy’s virtuoso lead guitar and Paul Monnin’s textural keys. Bassist Ian Gouldie provides superb low end counter melody and when combined with Danny Chord’s energetic drumming, its the type of rhythm section that make this kind of music possible in the first place. Neo American Pioneers are a fully developed band hitting new creative highs as they explore some of Swayne and Redman’s best and most personal writing and the band’s most ambitious material yet.
