Big City is Out Today!

The New Old-Fashioned return with a new EP of songs captured during the Smalltown, Midwest, USA album sessions at Reel Love Recording. It’s hardly ‘extra’, but rather material that stands on its own and hints at where the band is on a personal level. It’s available everywhere you stream or download music including the Magnaphone store on BandCamp!

“The title track, “Big City,” opens the album with a seductive number and sets the stage for the EP to unfold. “I Don’t Want to Lose My House,” confronts a genuine thread of fear in the social order. “Drink and a Prayer” takes things up a notch with some upbeat, although perhaps flimsy, optimism at securing a waning relationship. “Little White Stickers” closes out the EP with some grandeur in the arrangement — about little white stickers and a stick figure family on the back of the van that give life some personal meaning, somehow. The EP is a concept album, and the concept is making it through the difficulties of modern life in some of its most disheartening forms.” - Americana Highways

Broken Bones by Heather Redman

A haunting number just in time for Halloween! Heather Redman takes on “Broken Bones” by fellow Magnaphone band Salvadore Ross, originally released on the Mystery Head album. It’s a killer rendition that illustrates Redman’s penchant for interpretation. She’s backed by a killer band from the Reel Love Recording cast who put this one down to analog tape. It’s a fresh sound and makes us even more excited to find out what’s next for Heather and her band. Stream or download on our BandCamp store or check it out on YouTube.

Guilty Pleasures Grace the Trojan City Limits

John Dubuc and the boys paid a visit to Trojan City Limits on Saturday and you can check out the recorded live stream on the TCL Facebook page! Note the new lineup featuring Kent Montgomery also of The New Old-fashioned, Phil Caviness also of The Boxcar Suite and Dan Stahl also of Shrug, Sympathetic Buzz. It’s a helluva band, but of course, it always has been!
